True Hope for Faith Heroes

Today’s Reading: Hebrews 11:32-40

Hebrews 11:37-38 — They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

God promises hope for heroes. The heroes of the Old Testament listed in Hebrews chapter eleven did not receive all that God had promised during their lifetimes. They lived by faith looking forward to a certain hope. That hope was Jesus.

Jesus has always been the only hope of the world. After man’s fall in the Garden of Eden, God promised a savior who would redeem the human race from its sins. The Old Testament scriptures contain many promises of a king who would come to deliver us all from the cruel slavery of sin. Jesus was that deliverer, savior, and redeemer.

The heroes of faith suffered the loss of many things, including their lives, as they longed for the coming of the promised anointed one who would bring righteousness to the world.

The same thing is happening today. Even though Christ has come once and delivered people from sin, now the ones who live by faith look forward to the Second Coming of Jesus. He will judge the world and He will fill it with His righteousness.

Jesus is our only true hope. He is our Savior who has saved us (spirit), who is in the process of working out His salvation in us (soul), and who will complete His work of salvation someday (body), just as He promised.

Let’s remember the words of the hymn which says, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” Jesus—our hope, our foundation, our cornerstone!

Devotional

“Jesus—our hope, our foundation, our cornerstone!”

Don’t try to be like Him, just look at Him.

Just be occupied with Him. Forget about trying to be like Him.

Instead of letting that fill your mind and heart, let Him fill it.

Just behold Him, look upon Him through the Word. From Green Letters.

Thank you, Jesus!

You are my Cornerstone.

“예수님, 우리의 희망이요 반석이요, 모퉁잇돌이십니다!”

그분처럼 되려고 하지 말고 그분을 바라보십시오.

다만 그분에게만 집중하십시오.

그분처럼 되려고 노력하는 것을 잊어버리십시오.

당신의 생각과 마음을 채우려고 하는 대신, 그분께서 채우시도록 하십시오.

그분을 바라보십시오. 말씀을 통해 그분을 바라보십시오.Miles J. Stanford, The Green Letters. 주님 당신은 나의 반석 이십니다
