Blessed Be the Name of the Lord

Today’s Reading: Proverbs 18:10-11

Proverbs 18:10 — The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

God promises ultimate security. The person of God and the name of God cannot be separated. The name of the Lord is a strong tower because the Lord Himself is infinitely tall and deep and powerful.

God’s character and nature and attributes are like mighty walls that tower above all of His creation. No one can scale His heights or plumb His depths or overthrow Him by any means.

God is Almighty God in every way. His love, His mercy, His grace, His joy, His peace, His patience, His goodness, His kindness, His faithfulness, His gentleness, and His self-control are infinite and inexhaustible. His knowledge is unsurpassable and His presence is inescapable.

The righteous man who fears the Lord runs to Him for safety. The righteous man calls on the name of the Lord when he is in trouble and needs the safe refuge of the strong tower of God.

The unrighteous man can also call upon the name of the Lord for salvation. By placing his faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ—who Jesus is and what He has done—the unrighteous man can receive forgiveness and be made righteous.

How strong are you? Are you an unassailable, insurmountable tower that can never be overthrown? Are you infinite? Are you almighty, inexhaustible,  and unsurpassable? If you are honest, you know how limited and weak you are in comparison to God and to the supernatural enemies that seek to destroy you. Make the name of the Lord your refuge and run into Him for your soul’s safety.
