Your Priesthood Privilege

Isaiah 61:6 — You shall be called the priests of the Lord…

Isaiah prophesied of a day when all people could be priests and have direct access to God’s presence. At the time Isaiah wrote, only men from the tribe of Levi could be priests and serve in the temple. They offered sacrifices on behalf of the people.

Only the high priest could enter the holiest place behind the heavy veil that separated the Mercy Seat from the rest of the world. Once a year, the high priest sprinkled the blood of atonement on the Mercy Seat for the sins of the nation.

But through the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Levitical priesthood was replaced by the Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, whose precious blood atoned for the sins of the entire human race, past, present, and future. Now, anyone who puts their faith in Jesus and His sacrifice for the forgiveness of their sins can have direct access to the presence of God.

Think of the most famous, powerful, or amazing person you know but realize that you will never meet them, even though you might wish to with all your heart. How would you react if that person showed up on your doorstep and said, “I want to be your friend. I know all about you, and I am hoping that you would like to have a relationship with me and get to know me.”

This is what Jesus Christ has done for us. He has made it possible for us to have a relationship with God that Aaron and the other Old Testament high priests could never have. As priests of the Lord, we have moment-by-moment access to God’s presence and the opportunity to know Him intimately. We take this privilege too lightly.

God loves you, really, truly loves you, and He wants you to get to know Him personally. Take advantage of your priesthood privilege and open your heart to a deeper relationship with Jesus.

"You shall be called the priests of the Lord."

Psalms 145:21 NLT

[21] I will praise the Lord, and may everyone on earth bless his holy name forever and ever.

Why do choirs wear robes? Because the choir's praises were the role of priests in the Old Testament. We must prepare. If there is an opportunity for our faith to grow, we must participate without hesitation.
