You Are New!

Today’s Reading: Revelation 21:1-5

Revelation 21:5 — And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

God promises new things. John’s revelation included his vision of a new heaven and a new earth, where God will live among His people, and all the causes of tears will be gone forever. There will be no death or sorrow or pain or crying.  This is part of what it means for all things being made new in Christ.

Jesus makes everything better because everything is being made new in Him. Look at yourself; you have been made new by Jesus through your relationship with Him and by the transforming power of God’s Word. Every day, when you take in the life of the Word of God and are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, you become a new and better creation in Christ.

If you could see the person that you would have been today if you had never been born again, you would be shocked by how much different you are. The new in-Christ-new-creation you is so much better than the old dead-in-trespasses-and-sin you.

Jesus is doing new things in your life every day whether you realize it or not. Making things new is what Jesus does. When He walked this earth, Jesus brought new life to people through the eternal words He spoke, through the miracles He performed, through His acts of love and forgiveness, and through His death and resurrection.

When Jesus came out of the tomb, He was not the same man that had gone into it three days before. He was alive and better than before. He had a body that was prepared for eternity. Someday, that will also be true of us. In the meantime, know that God is working every moment to perfect and prepare you for your eternal union with Him. You have new life in Christ!
