Exodus 12:13 — When I see the blood, I will pass over you.
God commanded that the blood of a sacrificial lamb to be applied to the lintel and doorposts of the homes of the Israelites. God wanted to save His people from the plague of death that was coming. When the Lord saw the blood, He would passover those who lived in that home and they would not die.
God said, “The blood shall be a sign for you.” From the very beginning, the blood of an innocent animal had saved people from death. When Adam and Eve distrusted God’s words and disobeyed Him, they were spared from physical death by shed blood. The blood of Abel’s sacrifice was accepted by the Lord. Noah offered blood sacrifices when he and his family left the ark.
The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Sin produces death in relationships. When a person dies, any relationships to that person end. Death ends marriages, friendships, and family ties. We have words in the Bible such as “widow” and “orphan” to signify those who remain after a husband or parents die. The relationship between God and the human race would have ended forever the day Adam and Eve sinned if God had not intervened with the blood of animals who died in the place of those two sinners.
The reason that we can have an everlasting relationship with God is the blood of the Savior, Jesus Christ. If He had not come and died on the cross in our place, we would have no hope of an eternal home with God in heaven. We would be widows and orphans, alone in the world. However, when we believe in Jesus and accept the sacrifice He made to save us, God sees Christ’s blood and passes over us. He gives us eternal life!
Oh, the blood of Jesus! It washes white as snow.

"The reason that we can have an everlasting relationship with God is the blood of the Savior, Jesus Christ."
Habakkuk 3:17-19 NLT
[17] Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, [18] yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! [19] The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. (For the choir director: This prayer is to be accompanied by stringed instruments.)
