Wait and See

Today’s Reading: Psalm 27

Psalm 27:14 — Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

God promises we will see His goodness if we wait. Sometimes you have to wait to see how something is going to develop and grow. The first time you hear a song that is different from what you normally listen to, you may not like it so much. But when you hear it a second or third time, you enjoy it. The same can be true for trying new foods, starting new jobs, and meeting new people.

Sometimes you cannot imagine that anything good can come from something that seems so bad. “How could this horrible diet or exercise program that I hate be good for me?” But when you start looking and feeling healthier, you are glad you waited and did not quit and endured the difficulties.

God makes promises to us and says that He will keep them, but often we have to wait for Him to fulfill them. While we are waiting, it may seem like situations are going from bad to worse and that God has forgotten us. But everything that God allows to happen in the waiting process is expertly designed by God to prepare us for the fulfillment of His promise.

While we wait on God, we learn of His goodness and we learn humility and realize our need to seek His face. We discover God’s faithfulness to us and learn the lesson of leaning not on our own understanding, but trusting God to always do what is best.

God is good and gracious and greatly to be praised. Don’t judge people or situations too quickly. God may have brought them into your life to teach you something that will help you to grow in grace.

[15] Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. [16] To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?
