Today’s Reading: Isaiah 49:8-16
Isaiah 49:15 — “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.”
God promises that we are always on His mind. As we grow older, we tend to forget things. A man can wander around the house looking for his eyeglasses when they are resting on top of his head! Some people can remember what happened many years ago, but cannot remember what happened only an hour ago. Fortunately for God’s children, the Father never forgets a single one of His sons and daughters.
The people of Jerusalem looked at their unhappy circumstances and said, “The Lord has deserted us and forgotten us.” God exclaimed, “Never!” God always has His people on His mind. The only thing that God “forgets” about us is who we were and what we did before we were born again into His family.
“I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” says the Lord in Jeremiah 31:34. Our past has passed away. Who we were has been crucified with Christ and been buried. There is nothing to remember about our former lives as far as God is concerned.
David said, “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!” (Psalm 139:17-18). God knows all His children by name and remembers every detail about who we are. God will not forget any of the promises He has made. God will not forget one detail of His perfect plan for each of our lives.
There will be days when it seems that nobody knows your problems and nobody cares about you. But even on the cross, Jesus promised to remember the thief who died at His side. On those days you think you are alone, God will be thinking of you, and every thought will be a thought of peace to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
