Though I Have Fallen, I Will Arise

Micah 7:8 — Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.

Do God’s people have an enemy? Yes, we do. Do believers fall? Yes, we do. Do Christians sometimes sit in darkness? Yes, we do. Does the Lord hear us? Yes, He does. Will the Lord bring us into the light? Yes, He will. How do we know these things? God’s Word tells us so.

It is not just God’s people who have an enemy. Every human being has the same enemy because every human being has been made in God’s image, and Satan hates that. If he could, Satan would ruin and destroy the entire human race as he did back in the days of Noah. But Satan hates God’s people even more than the unsaved people since we have chosen to believe and put our faith in God and we are a threat to his kingdom.

Does Satan try to cause us to stumble and fall into sin and sit in darkness? Oh, he does because he does not want us to be fellowshipping with grace and truth and being lights in this dark world. Satan would love for us to fall and stay down, to sit in darkness focused on our failure instead of looking to the Lord of light.

When we fall, we can call on the Lord to confess our sin and be restored to right relationship with Him. He will cause us to rise again to stand in grace and walk in His light. We are in a spiritual fight. A boxer may get knocked down, but he gets up and fights some more. We are in a race. A runner may stumble in the marathon, but she gets back on her feet and runs on.

Paul said to Timothy, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” The enemy does not want us to keep the faith, but who cares what the devil wants? Have you fallen? Arise! Have you been sitting in darkness? Look to the light of the Lord! Never give up! Never quit!
