Today’s Reading: John 19:16-22
1 Corinthians 15:3 — For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
God promises the True King. When Jesus Christ was crucified, the Jews were offended by Pilate’s inscription that he had attached to Jesus’ cross. The Jews wanted Pilate to change the inscription from “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews” to “This man said, I am King of the Jews.” But Pilate refused their request.
Jesus was not only the “King of the Jews” but the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Almighty God and Master of the Universe. And this magnificent, unique God-man, the second Person of the Trinity—God the Son—died for our sins.
Caesar sat on his throne in Rome. Many other men and women recognized as kings, queens, emperors, empresses, chiefs, high priests, and other titles of human government sat in their places of authority. But none of them would have any authority at all if it were not for the One who hung dying on a cross outside the walls of Jerusalem.
For it was Jesus who was the True King, the Creator and Sustainer of all life, to whom these leaders owed their existence and allegiance. The Bible says that one day every soul that has ever lived will bow and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord indeed. The True King sacrificed Himself for the sins of the world to give them eternal life if they would only acknowledge Him as Lord and turn to Him in humility to receive His grace for salvation.
Men and women have a throne room in their hearts where the one they worship and serve is enthroned. In some hearts, people have enthroned themselves. Others have enthroned material wealth or pleasure or false religion. But the true Christian has enthroned the True King who died, was buried, and rose again. To Jesus, the believer humbly bows his knee and lifts his hands and voice in praise and worship.
Take a moment today to pay homage to the True King. Give reverence to Him with loving obedience to His word. He is worthy!

What does it mean to die for others? There were times when Jesus was angry, saying, “You brood of snakes!”, and there were times when he showed endless love. Whatever the action, if the motive was to save the soul, and if more patience and waiting were required, will I really be able to endure it as if I were died? Look to Jesus!
