The Spirit of Truth

Today’s Reading: John 16:7-15

John 16:13 — When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future.

God promises the Spirit of truth. In Psalm 116:11 we read the psalmist exclaiming in frustration, “All people are liars!” Some days it seems that way, and you wonder who you can trust to tell you the truth.  Salespeople, politicians, journalists, and even doctors, teachers, lawyers, and religious leaders are caught lying to the public for their own gain.

But there is Someone who will never lie to you, and that is the Holy Spirit. Jesus called Him the Spirit of truth who will guide us into all truth. God has given us the Holy Spirit of truth to live inside of us to guide us as we explore the truth recorded in the Bible.

Jesus prayed to God the Father, “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:17). Sanctification is the daily, progressive work of salvation that God is doing in our hearts and souls. God makes us holy through His Word by the Spirit of truth’s guidance.

Every day you need to bathe your soul in the truth of God’s Word. Spend time with the Spirit of truth. He will minister words of grace and truth to your mind, your emotions, your will, your conscience, and your consciousness — all five parts of your soul — so that you can be protected from the onslaught of lies that the devil will fire at you.

The Spirit of truth will guide you with truth throughout your day as you walk with Him. He will remind you of the doctrine you have been taught and help keep your feet from slipping or turning aside from the way. God made us to live by faith in His words, so listen to the voice of the Spirit speaking God’s Word to you today.
