The Promise of Mercy

Today’s Reading: Genesis 9:1-17

Genesis 9:13 — I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

God promises His mercy. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord (Genesis 6:8), and the Lord extended His mercy to all who would believe Noah’s preaching and seek salvation in the ark. Only Noah’s immediate family survived the Great Flood with him along with the animals God sent to join Noah and his family in the ark.

God destroyed man and beast alike because “the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.…the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence” (Genesis 6:5,11).

Sin, wickedness, and evil had so corrupted God’s creation that God’s heart was grieved. He knew that only by destroying everything infected by evil could life on earth be saved. God had promised Adam that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head, so to fulfill His promise, God ruined Satan’s plan to defile the entire human race and turn them all against God.

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the promises made in the Old Testament scriptures. His death, burial, and resurrection destroyed the works of the serpent, Satan (1 John 3:8; Revelation 12:9). Through Jesus, the promise God made to Noah to have mercy on the human race was fulfilled. Jesus Christ, the substitutionary Lamb of God, paid the wages of all our sins through His death, so that we might become righteous in Christ.

Today we see a world that is becoming more and more like the world of Noah’s time. Jesus said that He would come again when it will be “as it was in the days of Noah”  (Matthew 24:37). When Jesus comes again, it will be another great judgment like the Flood, but those who are in Jesus Christ, the ark of mercy and salvation, will find grace in the Lord’s eyes and be safe.

As we celebrate Easter Sunday, let us be thankful for God’s promises fulfilled in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior! Such amazing love, mercy, and grace have been given to us. Bless the name of the Lord!

“Those who are in Jesus Christ, the ark of mercy and salvation, will find grace in the Lord’s eyes and be safe.”

Of course!

If someone loves me so much that they would die, isn’t that the place truly rely on and live in? That’s what Jesus said. I trust and rely on Him forever.

Thank you Jesus!
