The Gift of the Holy Spirit

Today’s Reading: John 14:15-26

John 14:17 — …even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

God promises the Holy Spirit’s presence. As the end of Jesus’ time on earth drew near, He assured His disciples that He would not leave them alone. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to dwell within them. This is an incredible, sacred gift that we forget sometimes. We forget that Almighty God has made His home in us.

If you are a true believer in Jesus Christ, God has come to live inside you, and He is not going to leave. The Holy Spirit now lives in every born-again believer. He is the third Person of the holy Trinity and is just as much God as Jesus and the Father. The Spirit has other names that describe how He functions.

He is our Comforter, Counselor, and Advocate who stays with us to give us wisdom and defend us from Satan’s accusations. He is the Convicter of Sin who shines the light of truth into our hearts to reveal our need to confess and forsake our sin at the cross. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher who shows us how to apply God’s truth to our daily lives. He is our Intercessor who prays for us, our Guide who leads us, and our Witness who assures us that we are God’s children and that the Bible is God’s true, inspired Word.

The Holy Spirit is actively working in our lives to produce Christ’s character and nature in us, which is called the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. The Spirit is the Helper who helps us live godly lives, and He is the power of God that enables us to live righteously and not sin.

Thank God for the indescribable gift of the Holy Spirit and remember that God is always present always in you. Call on Him and ask Him to fill you anew today.
