Tears

Revelation 21:4 — He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

When God dwells with us, all the former things pass away and everything is being made new. As the apostle John saw a new Jerusalem descending from heaven, he heard a loud voice from God’s throne proclaiming that He will dwell among His people and be with them as their God. And as their personal, loving God, He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, for there will no longer be any reason to cry.

In our lives in this world, there are many things to cry about. Even Jesus wept when He was living among us. Pain, suffering, loss, and death bring tears to our eyes. Being separated from someone we love can make us cry. But one day, God Himself will dry every one of His children’s eyes, and the only tears that might be shed from then on would be tears of joy.

In God’s presence, there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Peter said that believers who love Jesus are filled with inexpressible joy even though they have never seen Him. Imagine the joy we will experience when we meet Him face to face! Probably some of us will be bawling our eyes out with tears of sheer joy.

Today, something may happen that will make you cry tears of sadness or even grief. The Holy Spirit indwelling you will comfort you. God cares about your tears. Psalm 56:8 says that God collects all your tears in His bottle. Your tears are precious to the Lord because you are precious to Him. I pray that you will experience the joy of the Lord today even if something bad happens or is happening already. God be with you!
