Spiritual Light and Peace

Today’s Reading: John 6:15-31

Proverbs 3:25 — Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes.

God promises Christ’s light in the darkness. Jesus is always the Light of the world, but not everyone sees that spiritual light. Jesus fed thousands of people through the miracle of the loaves and fish, yet people still asked Him, “What sign do you do, that we may see and believe you?” What would Jesus have to do for people to believe Him?

Why do you believe in Jesus? Or, if you do not believe in Jesus, why don’t you? Everyone will believe in Jesus someday in the future, but for many it will be too late. Jesus walked on water in the middle of a storm on the Sea of Galilee, but still His disciples had difficulty believing what Jesus said. Our natural way of thinking cannot grasp who Jesus is or what Jesus means when He speaks God’s words. We need divine illumination.

We are all in need of spiritual help, and God has given the Holy Spirit to help open the eyes and the hearts of people to the light of the truth in Jesus. When we receive God’s words by grace through faith, we begin to understand and to know Jesus personally and experience His peace.

If we do not have God’s peace, we will experience fear, confusion, and insecurity. Bad things will happen, and we will withdraw into ourselves. We will draw away from truth into what we think or feel is right according to our natural understanding. We will forsake the hard way of the cross for the easy way of self-preservation.

Darkness is scary. When there is no light, we wander from the way and stumble over unseen obstacles. You and I need to walk each day with Jesus, the Light of the world, to experience the love, joy, and peace that can be found in relationship with Him. Link your arm with Jesus’ arm today and walk in the light of truth without fear.
