Today’s Reading: Hebrews 2:9-18
Hebrews 2:15 — Only in this way could He set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.
God promises to set us free. The author of Hebrews wrote that “by the grace of God” Jesus tasted death for everyone. Only by dying could Jesus set us free. He suffered and became the founder of our salvation.
Jesus died so that we might live in freedom from the bondage of sin and death. Through the cross, He gave us His life. We receive grace upon grace every time we go to the cross in humility and acknowledge all that Jesus did for us to set us free.
Jesus took away the fear of death by the power of His grace which He revealed at the cross. When Jesus cried out “It is finished!” He swung open the doors of heaven. Anyone who receives God’s grace for salvation is made holy and acceptable and may freely enter God’s presence.
When we have a problem, we can run to the throne of grace and mercy where the God of all grace awaits us (Isaiah 30:18). We have free access to Him at all times because of the blood of Jesus. We simply say, “Lord, I need You. Please help me with my problem.”
For us who are brothers and sisters of Christ, death is merely the next step of faith in our experience of God’s eternal life. “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). If we die to self today, we will be free indeed!
