Today’s Reading: Hebrews 11:13-16, 23-27
Hebrews 11:27 — By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.
God promises the unseen. Faith is a means of spiritual perception. Paul wrote that we walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). The author of Hebrews says that Moses left Egypt by faith and endured as though he could actually see God who is invisible. By faith, Moses was able to keep his eyes on God.
The Old Testament saints all had to rely on faith in God’s promises of a messiah who would come to deliver them and establish the kingdom of God. For centuries, people lived and died looking forward by faith to the day when the Messiah would come. They endured the struggles and tribulations of life on earth through the hope of salvation.
We, as New Testament saints, have the testimony of the Messiah’s life to encourage us. God fulfilled His promise through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We have not seen Him, but we can read the inspired accounts of His life, death, and resurrection. We can ponder the words He spoke and the deeds He did.
And because we believe and put our faith in Jesus for our eternal salvation, we have the Holy Spirit of God living within us to encourage our faith and help us endure the times we live in. Our faith in Jesus and the hope that His salvation gives us enables us to press onward and upward toward our heavenly goal. We can fight the good fight of faith with spiritual perception of eternal things.
There are times we may feel that life is unendurable. It is at those times that we ought to pray for God to open our eyes of faith so that we can see Him and His work of grace in our lives. Be like Moses and ask God to show you His glory (Exodus 33:18), and He will.
