Secure in God's Promises

Today’s Reading: 2 Peter 1:2-8

2 Peter 1:4 — He has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

God has promised security in Christ. God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. How? By making it possible for us to know Him through Jesus Christ. When we enter into a personal relationship with Christ through the grace of salvation, we begin to know God’s thoughts, character, and nature.

As we enter God’s mind each day through reading His thoughts in the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit will teach us more about what it means to be a child of God. We discover the amazing promises our Father has made to us through His Son, and they give us encouragement, hope, and security.

God stands behind each and every one of His promises. They never fall to the ground. God’s promises are sure and certain. One of God’s greatest promises is to give us Himself—His power, His presence, His eternal life—and He has done this through putting His Holy Spirit in us to perfect us.

The divine nature of God dwells within us. We can partake of that new nature. We have been called by the glory and the excellence of God out of the world and its sinful desires to live a godly life with godly desires. As the promises of the Word of God fill up our hearts and souls and we mix faith with them, we become partakers of Christ’s life.

This is how Jesus lived here on earth. He received the words of God and obeyed them. The thoughts of God kept Him from the corruption that is in the world. Jesus derived His life from God, therefore He lived a godly life. Christ’s personal relationship with the Father was the secret to His sincere walk of faith. Rest secure in God’s promises.

Devotional

“The divine nature of God dwells within us. We can partake of that new nature.”

This is why I stay close to the word of God every morning. I want to have God's character dwell within me and eventually grow into someone who does the God’s work together. However, I still encounter conflicts and sometimes flounder in front of problems. Perhaps this is the process of sanctification. It seems to be a path that I have to follow for the rest of my life until the day I go before the Lord.
