Safe in the Lord

Today’s Reading: 1 Peter 1:1-9

1 Peter 1:5 — And through your faith, God is protecting you by His power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.

God promises to protect you. God is constantly protecting you by His power and He will continue to do so until the day we no longer need His protection. When will that be? That day will be when the third part of Christ’s glorious salvation is revealed in us, the day when we receive new glorified bodies made for living forever in God’s presence.

Jesus told the disciples that He would go to prepare a place for them in John 14. From Peter’s writing we see that our new bodies have also already been prepared for us. Our glorious new selves are ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.

We Christians are on a journey like the sojourners and pilgrims took in the Old Testament. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived in tents and had no permanent dwelling place on this earth. They were looking forward to the heavenly homeland God had prepared for them (Hebrews 11:8-10).

We are also living in tents—these bodies that good for temporary life on earth, but not for eternity in heaven. We are destined for “a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God.” As we walk through the wilderness of this world, God protects us by His great power. He is determined to bring our souls and spirits safely home to be with Him.

These bodies of ours will wear out and expire, but our souls and spirits are designed to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and never die. God is not preserving our bodies indefinitely, but He is preparing our souls and spirits for an eternal life of relationship with Him. Let God protect you by His Word and His Spirit today. Hide yourself in Christ in God. Be safe in the Lord.

Yes, He is my Father who protects me by His great power.

“For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.

The Lord says,

“I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
