Safe and Secure

Today’s Reading: John 10:22-30

John 10:28 —  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

God promises security and safety. Jesus said that His sheep listen to His voice and follow Him. Jesus said, “I know them…I give them eternal life.” When we listen to Jesus and follow Him, He knows us as His own and gives His eternal life to us. Therefore, we will never perish and we will never be snatched from His hand.

The word snatch is the Greek word harpazo, which means “to be taken away quickly by force.” This word is used to describe how a lion or a wolf seizes a sheep away from the flock (John 10:12). Jesus described Himself as the good shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep (John 10:11). Under the protection of a shepherd like Jesus, the sheep have nothing to fear.

Believers in Christ have eternal life in abundance (John 10:10). No matter what may happen in this life, nothing can take away the eternal life we have in Jesus. We are safe and secure in the hands of the Son of God and in the hands of the Father also (John 10:29). 

Deuteronomy 33:27 says, “The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” We are being cradled in the everlasting arms of God, close to His heart of love, and the gentle hands of the Father and the Son minister eternal life to us. 

David called the Lord “the upholder of my life” (Psalm 54:4). Isn’t that what we need today? Don’t we all need to be held up in the everlasting arms of Jesus today? Safety and security comes in knowing Jesus, listening to His voice, following in His ways. When you face difficulty today, pray, “Hold me, Jesus, in Your hand. I need Your life right now.”
