Today’s Reading: 1 Kings 8:54-61
1 Kings 8:56 — Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all His good promise, which He spoke by Moses his servant.
God promises rest for His people. We all need rest from time to time. Our bodies need sleep in order to function properly. Our souls also need rest. We can become mentally and emotionally exhausted. Spiritual rest is very important for the believer.
Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.“ Jesus offers spiritual rest. Those whose souls are weary from carrying heavy burdens are invited by Jesus to come to Him and receive His words of life.
Solomon said that the Lord’s rest was the result of the Lord’s promises. Every word that God had promised, God had fulfilled, and so they had rest. Jesus said, “Learn from me. Let me teach you.” Jesus had both words that would produce rest and a life that would give rest. Jesus told them how to live by God’s Word and then showed them by His example how to live by God’s Word.
In the midst of situations, Jesus showed Himself to be a man at rest. He had peace in His soul, so His thoughts and emotions and responses were thoughtful and spiritual. God’s Word, God’s thoughts, and God’s will governed Jesus’ soul. Spiritual rest gave Jesus’ soul and body rest, so He lived a healthy life.
God has promised this same rest for all of us. We have the Word to guide and govern us. We have the Holy Spirit inside of us who is a Spirit of peace, and He brings God’s truth to our minds to help us think and respond spiritually. We need the rest that Jesus offers.
Take time to step aside from your busy life to rest with the Lord; read and meditate on His Word. Let God’s good promises bring you deep peace and inner joy.

Devotional
“Be like Moses and ask God to show you His glory (Exodus 33:18)”
What does the Bible say about Moses? Moses is portrayed as a prophet who receives the Ten Commandments from God. Earlier in his story, he is responsible for leading the Israelites out of slavery and parting the Red Sea to let them escape from the Egyptians.
Just as Moses had his staff as a reminder of God's power and presence, we have the Holy Spirit living within us to lead. Even though we may be hesitant like Moses, we can be a more confident leader when we recognize how God has made us.
Thank you, Jesus!
