Peace in Our Friend, Jesus

greatergracekorea

Philippians 4:6-7 — Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Paul encouraged the Philippian believers to stand firm in the Lord. He had told them to keep pressing onward and upward to know Christ. He told them to set their minds on things above because they were citizens of heaven. This would enable them to experience the peace of God in their daily lives.

Although Christians live on this planet in time and space, we are not to live by the system of this world, but in our eternal relationship with Christ. Paul said that some walk as enemies of the cross of Christ, meaning that they value friendship with the world over their relationship with Jesus.

There is no peace in the way of the world. When someone has his mind set on earthly things that can be destroyed, he will be anxious and driven by his belly (his natural desires) to preserve himself and his lifestyle. But this world is always passing away, and a life built on self-satisfaction and self-fulfillment will result in self-destruction.

But when we become a friend of the cross of Christ, when we find the blessed release of surrendering ourselves to Christ and diving into the depths of His love, we discover real, eternal satisfaction and fullness. There is joy in knowing Jesus! There is sweet unity in our relationships that are centered on Jesus!

We can come to Jesus with our prayers, supplication, and thanksgiving, and bare our souls to God. Jesus is the friend we need that we can tell everything to without fear of rejection or shame. Jesus wants us to cast all of our cares on Him so that we can have His peace in our hearts and minds. This is how we stand firm in the Lord—by entrusting everything to Him in prayer.

"우리가 그리스도 십자가와 친구가 될 때, 우리가 그리스도께 자신을 내어드리고, 그분의 사랑의 깊이와 축복의 자유함을 발견할 때, 우리는 진정 영원한 충만함을 알게됩니다."
