Our Precious Lord

Today’s Reading: Matthew 13:44-46

Matthew 7:7 — Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

God promises to be precious. Jesus spoke two brief parables in Matthew 13:44-46 about precious things—a treasure hidden in a field and a pearl of great price. In both stories, someone sells all he has to obtain these precious items.

One way to see these stories is to view the treasure and the pearl as symbols of a single human soul which has more value than the entire world (Matthew 8:36). Jesus Christ is the man who gave all He had to purchase the souls of sinners.

Another way to view these stories is for us to see the treasure and the pearl as God Himself. Job 22:24-25 says, “If you give up your lust for money and throw your precious gold into the river, the Almighty Himself will be your treasure. He will be your precious silver!” We should be the ones to see the value of a personal relationship with God. We should be willing to give up all we have to know Him.

David wrote, “How precious is your steadfast love, O God!” (Psalm 36:7), and “How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!” (Psalm 139:17). David realized how precious it is to be a child of God and to experience His love and receive God’s thoughts.

The Lord should be precious to us because we are His “treasured possession” (Malachi 3:17). God shares His precious life with us. All we have to do is ask, seek, and knock, and the Lord will provide exactly what we need. God is a generous Lord who will not withhold any good thing from us that will help us grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We were visiting many churches here in Genral Santos. We have an air conditioner. There is not a single church with air conditioning, even in hot weather exceeding 30 degrees. GMC has a bathroom that needs to be repaired. Here , the Greater Grace GenSan church, there is no toilet lid, of course, no toilet paper, and you have to scoop up water and pour it into…
