Our Inheritance

Psalm 47:4 — He chooses our inheritance for us, the pride of Jacob, whom He loves.

God chose the land that would be the inheritance for His people, Israel. Ezekiel 20:6 says that the Lord searched out the land to give to His people. God promised the land of Canaan to be a special inheritance (Psalm 105:11). The Lord originally made the promise to Abraham, but He reiterated this promise to Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and Joshua.

Has God kept His promise? Yes. Little by little, as He said, God is causing His people to inherit the land that He searched for and promised to Israel. Of course, there has been much opposition to God’s plan, but all the powers of hell cannot stop God from doing what He intends for those He loves.

What about Christ’s chosen people, the church? Has our inheritance been chosen for us? Ephesians 1:11 says, “In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.” We are God’s children, and Romans 8:17 says, “If we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.”

We are co-heirs of all that is Christ’s. But if we want to share in Christ’s glory, we must be prepared to share in Christ’s sufferings. All who suffer for the sake of the gospel share in Christ’s suffering. We have been crucified, buried, raised, and made alive with Christ, and we also suffer with Christ for the sake of the gospel.

Our relationship with Christ is the best part of our inheritance. Being in Christ is far better than being in any piece of land on Earth. God has promised that He will conform us to the image of His Son. There is great opposition to God’s process of transforming us, but little by little, it is happening despite what the powers of hell may do to stop God’s work.

Just as God chose Israel to be His inheritance (Deuteronomy 32:9), we have been chosen to be Christ’s inheritance. Think of that! You are God’s treasured possession (Malachi 3:17).

I can't imagine my life if I didn’t have a relationship with Jesus.

He was my answer, my path and my light.

He is my shield and fortress when I am on a stumbling block.

Thank you, Jesus!

You are my Father and all mighty.

Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

[6] Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. [7] Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as…
