Joshua 1:5 — As I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Joshua had to step into the position that Moses had held for forty years as the leader of the people of Israel. Joshua must have been feeling anxious because the Lord assured him that He would be with Joshua wherever he went (Joshua 1:5, 9), and that he would never forsake him. God told Joshua three times to be strong and courageous (Joshua 6, 7, 9) since He would always be with Joshua.
Jesus made a similar promise to His disciples: “Surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” God is the most faithful friend that anyone could ever have. We may have some very good friends who tell us that they will always be there for us, but only God can really keep a promise like that. Only God can be with us no matter where we go and be with us both in life and in death.
Jesus is closer to us than any other friend because He has made His home in us. Even when we are alone, we are not alone. Each believer is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and He is a permanent resident. David said that no matter where he went, even if he was trying to escape from God’s presence, he could not, because God was always there (Psalm 139:7-12).
The Lord told Joshua that He would be as close to Joshua as He had been to Moses. The Lord helped Moses lead the people and He would help Joshua do the same. Acts 1:1 says that during His time on Earth, Jesus “began to do and teach.” This means that Jesus is still doing and teaching. The Master is still with His disciples wherever they are, doing wondrous things and teaching us!
Whatever God does endures forever. The Lord made you His friend, so He will be your friend forever.

Mark 2:26-28 NLT
[26] He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.” [27] Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath
was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. [28] So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”
