Our Father Knows Best

Today’s Reading: Joel 2:18-27

Joel 2:25 — I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, My great army, which I sent among you.

God promises restoration. God promised to His people restore everything that had been lost. The losses were the result of the locusts that God had sent. Why did God send locusts? He sent them to cause economic hardship and discipline His people. God wanted His people to turn back to Him.

God knew exactly what He was doing. He always does. And even though God’s methods may seem harsh to us, He always does what is best. God is the ultimate good in our lives, and His grace does whatever is needed to save us.

We think we know what God is doing or what He is going to do, but often we are wrong because we are so limited in our wisdom and understanding. We see one thing, but God sees another thing altogether. God’s ways and plans are deeper, wider and higher than we know.

Today it appeared that God was leading in one direction and plans were being made based on that belief. But then God reversed everything in just a matter of hours. At first it was upsetting and discouraging, but then God opened the eyes of our understanding, and He showed us what He wanted us to learn about Him all along.

God saved us a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering when He turned everything upside down. It caused some discomfort, but then we were thankful for the gracious way He spared us from much trouble. God taught us that He is a God that can always be trusted to do the greatest good.

Devotional

“God is the ultimate good in our lives, and His grace does whatever is needed to save us.”

God’s timing is always perfect.

We did our best to raise children, like any other parents... I don't know how hard it is to help them mentally and spiritually independent, and to watch them on their journey to find a Christ-centered life as children of God. That's why I pray, there is no choice. No, I can't live without prayer. Seeing them fall down and get back up, readjusting the direction and focus of their lives toward the Lord. It is now also theme of my prayers. I believe that God knows what's best for us, and that He will…
