No Greater Love

Isaiah 53:10 — Yet when His life is made an offering for sin, He will have many descendants.

Jesus made His life an offering for our sin so that we could be His spiritual descendants. Christ gave Himself, body, soul, and spirit, at the cross in our place.

Christ’s body was bruised, beaten, scourged, pierced, and subjected to excruciating pain. Jesus’ tormentors were cruel men, professional punishers who knew how to make people suffer for hours and days.

Christ’s soul was persecuted by the angry mob who screamed for Him to be crucified. Whipped to a frenzy by satanic powers, vicious people cursed Jesus, mocked Him, spat upon Him, to humiliate and degrade Him as much as possible. Jesus’ mind, will, and emotions were assaulted by haughty and ferocious faces, hatred, and taunting words.

Christ’s spirit was crushed when our sins were placed upon His body, and the Father’s wrath against sin made Jesus cry out, “My God! My God! Why have You forsaken Me?” Never before or since was Jesus subjected to the terrible pain of God’s displeasure.

Jesus endured the anguish of physical death, and though He did not die spiritually, He may have sensed what that is like for lost sinners. Because of God’s infinite love for the ones He had created in His image, Jesus offered Himself as a bloody sacrifice at the cross so that people could be born again into God’s family.

None of us could have done what Jesus did in our place. There has never been a greater love than this.

"None of us could have done what Jesus did in our place."

Present yourselves unto God as alive from the death. Rom.6:13. This is the true place of consecration. For believers to 'consecrate themselves to God' before they have learnt their union with Christ in death and resurrection (identificatio) is only to present to God the members of the natural man, which he cannot accept. Only those 'alive from the dead'-that is, having appropriated fully their likeness with him in death- are bidden to present their members as instruments unto god. From Green Letters.
