Today’s Reading: Romans 8:31-39
Psalm 106:1 — Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
God promises unfailing love. We have two great needs as human beings — to love and to be loved. Why is this true? God is love. We were made in God’s image to be like Him. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit love each other and are loved by each other. It is no wonder that we need to be loved and to love others.
The two greatest commandments are centered in love — to love God and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We love God because He loves us first. We can love others because have been loved by God. We receive God’s love and respond to God’s love by reciprocating it to Him and relaying it to others.
The love of God is like the sun. Without the sun, there would be nothing to keep the earth in its orbit and we would fly off in a straight line away from the moon and travel aimlessly through space. There would be no light, so plants would die. The temperature would drop and the waters of the earth would freeze. Eventually, all life would end.
Without the love of God, life is aimless and purposeless. There is no warmth, no light to see by, and no life without God’s love. Without God’s love, life is cold, dark, and devoid of vitality.
But God’s love is faithful and endures forever. We never have to worry that God’s love will burn out or go cold. Nothing can ever separate us from the Love of Christ. Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord! This is so good for us. God faithfully loves us, His children, and we can receive as much love as we desire. There is no limit, like an all-you-can-eat love buffet. To be like Christ, receive love and give love, again and again and again.
