Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 34:5-12
Ezekiel 34:12 — I will be like a shepherd looking for his scattered flock. I will find My sheep and rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.
God promises to be our shepherd. The Bible likens us to sheep because without heeding a shepherd’s voice, we tend to scatter and stray. I remember a person that I met in university who said that she did not believe in “shepherding.” She said that she did not need a pastor or a church. I felt bad for her since I know how much I need a pastor and a church to keep me fed and on the right pathway.
There are dark and cloudy days in our lives where we may turn our eyes away from our Lord and Shepherd and wander off in the wrong direction. Blessedly for us, Jesus is the Good Shepherd who finds us and rescues us from the troubles we have blundered into.
I love that God says, “I will find My sheep and rescue them.” God is committed and determined to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10). I lose my way sometimes, but the Holy Spirit inside of me is like a location tracker, so the Lord always knows exactly where I am and comes to rescue me.
The Good Shepherd knows each of His sheep by name (John 10:3) along with all of our weaknesses and tendencies. Nothing we think, say or do takes our Lord by surprise, and He always has a plan ready ahead of time to help us get back in the flock and headed in the right direction.
God’s sheepdogs, goodness and mercy, are on our heels following us and trying to keep us from straying all the days of our lives (Psalm 23:6). God’s eye is on the sparrow when it falls, so you know for certain that the Good Shepherd’s eyes are on you all the time to be there for you always.
Savior, like a shepherd lead us today. Amen.

Devotional
“Shepherd’s eyes are on you all the time to be there for you always.”
My two fathers - my father and father-in-law - lived their lives for others. They ran to anyone who needed them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their children grew up without ever going to an after-school academy. If Pastor Prokop and his wife hadn't been there when I was living alone in a faraway foreign country, I wouldn't be where I am today. Living with the right shepherd is the greatest luck and God’s blessing.
Thank you, Jesus!
