Let the Whole World Know

Exodus 7:5 —  The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.

The Egyptians had an amazing civilization. They had wealth and power and a culture that produced great architectural wonders. But they were a lost people. They worshiped false gods, one of whom was the Pharaoh himself, a mere man. God loved the Egyptian people and wanted them to know their true Creator, the true source of all of the blessings they enjoyed.

God had two-fold purpose for sending Moses to Egypt. One purpose was to fulfill His promise to Abraham that He would deliver Abraham’s descendants from affliction in a foreign land (Genesis 15:13-14). The other purpose was that the Egyptians would know that the God of their Hebrew slaves was the Lord. God wanted the Egyptian people to come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved.

Moses and Aaron approached Pharaoh as ambassadors sent by God to speak to Him and the Egyptian empire. Moses and Aaron spoke for God. God wanted the Egyptians to turn to Him. The Egyptians already knew of Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, but they did not worship Him or put aside their idolatry. God used the ten plagues to reveal His awesome power over all of the Egyptian deities, to prove to the Egyptians that only Yahweh was worthy of their worship.

Egypt is symbolic of all of the nations and people of the world that do not acknowledge God for who He is. God created every man, woman, and child, and He desires for them to know His love and be saved from sin and darkness. God uses the church, you and me, to be His ambassadors. Our words and our lives testify to the awesome power of God to save and transform lives. You have overcome and been delivered in Christ, so you can be a witness of the gospel of grace to others today.
