Let Me Hear!

Today’s Reading: Psalm 85

Psalm 85:8 — Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints: but let them not turn back to folly.

God promises to speak to us. Let me hear . . .  I will listen . . .  I will hear what God the Lord will speak. Have you ever been in a noisy room where everybody was talking at once and you could not hear what the speaker was saying? Perhaps you tried to get everyone to be quiet, so you said, “Let me hear! I want to hear what he is trying to say.”

There are so many voices that are trying to drown out the voice of the Lord. My flesh cries out for my attention and tries to turn my focus on myself. The world system shouts, “Look at this on your phone! Listen to this music! Be distracted by vain imaginations communicated through media, education, false religion, etc.” The demonic atmosphere whispers, “Listen to our lies and think that these are your true thoughts and feelings.”

We are in the midst of a great spiritual conflict that is a war of words. God wants to minister to us His words of life and peace. The kingdom of darkness wants to deceive us with its words of death and division. Remember what Jesus said in John 10:10 — "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

We have to fight against the fiery darts of the enemy to be able to hear what God has to say to us. Satan wants us to turn to his folly. What is folly? Folly is stupid, foolish thoughts and actions. Folly can also be madness. God wants us to live in wisdom with a healthy, sound mind that governs our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Dear saint of God, focus! Tune your ear to the certain sound of the Lord’s voice. Don’t have itching ears that only want to hear what makes the flesh happy. The flesh will tell you that it can be spiritual, but it absolutely cannot. Be Spirit-filled and listen carefully. Pray the words of Psalm 85:8 — “Let me hear what God the Lord will speak and do not let me turn back to folly.”

Devotional

“We need the Holy Spirit to carry us to the cross. Our flesh wants to avoid death, so we need God to carry us and assure us that everything will be much better even if dying to ourselves hurts.”

Yes, it hurts, even if I want to die on the cross. When my best friend doesn’t understand me at all, it hurts. But I bring myself to the cross. Because God is there. Holy Spirit, carry us to the cross. One day, we will be free from the pain and suffering. God knows!

There will be perfect love for each other.
