Today’s Reading: Hebrews 11:8-16
Hebrews 13:14 — For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.
God promises to be with us if we obey and go. Abraham left his homeland for a foreign land and he never went back. God told Abraham to leave the city of Ur and go to a place that God had promised. Abraham had no idea where he was going, but he went anyway.
There is a great lesson about faith for us in Abraham’s life. Abraham heard God’s call to go and he obeyed. When God calls, we should simply go. That is all God asks of us: Just go.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus says, “Go” and “I am with you always.” God sent His Son into the world with a calling. Jesus was to go and preach the gospel and make disciples. Jesus was also told to go to the cross and die for our sins. What did Jesus do? He went. He knew that the Father was with Him always.
Why is it so hard for us at times to simply go? Maybe it is difficult because going means letting go of things that seem to be safe and permanent, but are not. “If I obey God and go, I may lose something.” You will gain nothing by not going. There is nothing in this world that lasts forever. There is no true security in this world apart from God.
There is nothing of eternal value here in this world besides the Word of God and people’s souls. Abraham and Jesus show us that God is with us when we are called to go, and that God makes and keeps His promise to us when we are obedient to the heavenly vision and calling of God (Acts 26:19). Just go and let God take care of the rest.
