Jesus: Our Navigator

Today’s Reading: Psalm 139:1-10

Isaiah 58:11 — And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

God promises guidance. Do you have a good sense of direction? Can you navigate yourself or do you get lost easily? Some people can find their way in the wilderness, while others get lost walking in a department store. But when it comes to spiritual navigation, all of us need God’s guidance.

David said that the Lord always knows where we are. Even if we try to run from God, we cannot hide. God knows us completely. He will hold our hand and lead us if we let Him, for He knows the right way. Isaiah said that the Lord will guide us continually. We need spiritual guidance as walk through our lives in the wilderness of this world.

In a spiritual sense, the world is like a desert. There is nothing to quench the spiritual thirst of our souls. There are mirages—deceptive appearances of water—that people pursue only to discover that there is no real water, only an illusion. But God promises to give us real water, living water that quenches our spiritual thirst and strengthens our soul.

God says that He will make our souls like an oasis in the desert, a well-watered garden fed by an unfailing spring. We will not have to seek water, for He will satisfy us with Himself. Jesus said this to the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4. Christ’s presence in our life is a constant source of refreshment.

Jesus said that He was the way. The Spirit leads us into Jesus Christ who is grace and truth. The Father sent His Son to show us the way that leads to eternal life. The way is Jesus! Jesus is the spring of living water that our souls need as we walk in Him. We can know the Way. Jesus is our spiritual navigator, and He will bring us to our eternal home.
