Jesus is the Way

Today’s Reading: Psalm 46

Deuteronomy 33:27 — The eternal God is your refuge, and His everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; He cries out, “Destroy them!”

God promises to make a way for you. Psalm 46 tells us that God is with us and He protects us from whatever calamities we may face. The earth may shake and mountains may be swallowed up by the sea. The nations may rage and make war and the government and the economy may be on the verge of collapse. In the midst of all of these disasters, God is our refuge.

When your world seems to be falling apart, God is there to cradle you in His arms and keep you safe. You have a heavenly Father who is an eternal refuge for His children. God will help you. God will drive out and destroy the enemy when you cling to the Lord like a child who trusts his father to protect him from danger.

There are times when it seems there is no way of escape from a terrible situation. The Red Sea is in front of you and the armies of Egypt are behind you, ready to slaughter or enslave you. Perhaps you are bound hand and foot and about to be thrown into a fiery furnace. Maybe you are already dead and shut up in a tomb. What can you do?

God says, “Be still. Don’t strive. Don’t fight in your own strength. Be calm. I am God. I am the one who defeats the nations; I am the one who controls the world. I will open the Red Sea and make a way of escape for you. I will meet you in the fiery furnace and set you free to fellowship with Me there. I will call you by your name and raise you from the dead to be with Me and glorify Me.”

Jesus said, “I am the way.” There is always a way because there is always Jesus. Be still and cling to Jesus like the branches cling to the vine for life (John 15:5). Jesus is the only way.
