Today’s Reading: Philippians 4:6-9
2 Thessalonians 3:16 — Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you His peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
God promises peace will be with us. In Philippians 4:7, we read about God’s peace that exceeds anything we can understand. There is so much about God that we cannot understand, but we know it is true because God has told us the truth about Himself.
We don’t have to understand something for it to be true. Scientists cannot completely explain what energy is, but they do not deny that energy exists. There are many things like that which people with brilliant minds cannot explain because they cannot understand them, yet those things are accepted as true.
Do I really understand why God loved me so much that He took all my sin, my depravity, upon Himself so that He could give me His perfect righteousness and the riches of His grace? No, I do not. But God did that and I believe it, and it makes me weep to think about God’s great love for me, an undeserving sinner.
The peace that God gives us is incomprehensible. It is the supernatural peace that we can only experience in God’s presence, no matter what the situation may be. It is like the peace that allows a baby to fall asleep in her father’s arms in the middle of a thunderstorm that shakes the house. As long as she is in her daddy’s arms, she can rest.
We can talk to the Lord of peace about anything and everything in our lives. We can tell Him what we need and thank Him for being our Father and for placing us in Christ, the Prince of Peace. God will guard our hearts and minds with His peace as we rest in who we have been made to be in Jesus. How does this work? I don’t know, but we find peace when we spend time with Jesus.
