Today’s Reading: Exodus 3:11-14
Exodus 3:12 — God answered, “I will be with you.”
God promises to be with us. We are never alone. At the bottom of the sea, at the top of a Himalayan mountain, in the desert surrounded by sand, or locked up in solitary confinement in a prison, God is there with us.
David wrote about this truth in Psalm 139. He asked God, “Where shall I go from Your Spirit?” David said to God, “You are there!” because God was always with him.
When Moses experienced an identity crisis — “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” — God answered, “I am with you.” Think about this conversation. Moses asks, “Who am I?” and God answers “I am with you.” How does that make sense?
Perhaps this is similar to the apostle John’s identity as “the disciple Jesus loves.” God wanted Moses to have the identity as “the man that God is with.” Abraham had a wonderful identity as “the friend of God.” All of these identities give an incredible sense of significance and security.
Who are you in Christ? You are the disciple Jesus loves. You are the called one that God is with. You are the friend of God. No matter where you go, who you are in Christ will never change. Wherever you are, God is there and He has made you who you are by His grace. What Paul said of himself is true for you too: “I am what I am by the grace of God.”
