Home With God

Today’s Reading: Psalm 139:1-12

John 14:23 — Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

God promises us a loving home. Home. For most people, the word home is a value-laden word that stirs up memories and desires. Songs, poems, and novels have been written celebrating home and the longings of people to find or return to their home. The desire for home has been a part of human nature ever since Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden.

Just think of it! At one time, man lived in a place that God had prepared as a home, a place where the Lord visited him in the cool of the day. We call that kind of home paradise. When Adam and Eve sinned, they had to leave that home, and we have all be yearning for such a home ever since.

Blessedly, God has always wanted to have a relationship with us, and He has pursued us to make us His own. In Psalm 139, David wrote about how the Lord chased after him wherever he went—up to the heavens or down to the depths of the sea. “You are there!” David exclaimed, day or night, always.

God’s presence dwelt among His people in the tabernacle and in the temple in the Old Testament times, but in the New Testament, Jesus established God’s new covenant which promised that God would make His home in the hearts of those who love Christ. And Jesus promised us that He was going to His Father’s house to prepare a place—a home—for us for eternity.

Home. There is a saying that “home is where the heart is.” Our hearts were made to be home to the Holy One and the Lord promises to be a loving home for us too. Home is the place where you always belong, and in Christ, we will always belong.

“Home is where the heart is.”

I was thinking home should protect the weather of cold and hot or wind and rain.

While we were taking a mission trip in Genral Santos city, we visited some churches built only of wooden pillars and a tin roof. Because it seemed like there was no other way in the hot weath that exceeds over 32 degrees all year round. But there was a warm face, tender-hearted and Christ love each other. There was a real church that was invisible, rather than a flashy church that was visible to the eyes.
