Romans 8:26 — Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
The Spirit helps us in our weakness. I don’t know about you, but those are beautiful words for me to read today. I need to know that the Spirit Himself is interceding for me today. Sometimes the only prayer I can think of is “Lord, help me.” It is wonderful that the Lord promises to help us as He did in Isaiah 41:10.
When children are young, we help teach them how to brush their teeth, tie their shoes, zip up their jackets, etc. There comes a time when the child rejects our help and says, “I can do it myself,” and we are proud of their ability to do things on their own. We want our children to be able to do things without needing our help every time.
But this independent spirit does not work well in our relationship with God. Satan wants us all to live independently from God. The people who built the tower of Babylon ignored God’s command to fill the earth. They decided to be independent and build a great city together with a tower that would reach to heavens. They would make a name for themselves without God, and God was displeased.
The longer I live, the more I realize how weak I truly am in myself apart from God. Even my strengths are weaknesses when my flesh is in control. I need Jesus. I need the body of Christ. I need God’s Word. We all do. We all need the Spirit’s help and intercession for our needs. Otherwise we are just building towers to nowhere that will fall down someday. Here is a great promise to claim today: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Amen.

"The longer I live, the more I realize how weak I truly am in myself apart from God."
James 3:16-18 NLT
[16] For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. [17] But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peaceful, loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. [18] And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.
Surprisingly, I never knew I had so much jealousy in me.
