Held Up By Grace

Today’s Reading: Isaiah 41:8-10

Isaiah 41:10 — Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;

I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

God promises to uphold us. Life is full of letdowns. We have expectations. We get our hopes up. We think something is going to happen, but it doesn’t, and we are dismayed. We hope something we fear will never happen, but it does. Then the devil tries to convince us that God has cast us off—thrown us away—for some reason.

But the devil is the father of lies. God does not cast off the ones He has called. God does just the opposite. God says that He strengthens, helps, and upholds all of us that He has chosen.

We may get knocked down by life, but God is there to hold us up with His righteous right hand. Perhaps the friend you wanted is not interested in you. That hurts, but God is with you to help you deal with the pain of rejection. Perhaps you received some bad news about your health. That can be a great shock and cause fear, but God says to you, “I am your God and I will strengthen you and stand with you in this crisis.”

God is the most faithful friend you could ever have. He will not be a “fair weather friend” who is there for the good times but then deserts you in the bad times. Good times or bad times, God is with you all the time to uphold you with His righteous right hand of grace.

Paul wrote that God upholds us and is able to make us stand (Romans 14:4). And where do we stand? In the grace of God (Romans 5:2). Life in this world may let you down, but God’s grace will hold you up and make you stand again to face another day.
