Today’s Reading: Psalm 12
Psalm 12:5 — The Lord replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for Me to do.”
God promises to be there when things look bad. In Psalm 12, David describes a time like our own. People lie and take advantage of the poor and weak. The wicked are proud of their wicked words and deeds. The wicked are admired and their evil is praised. It seems as though the godly are disappearing.
But God sees and hears all that Is being said and done to His children. He knows the longing in the hearts of the weak and oppressed, and He promises to rise and rescue them.
Situations in our lives can become unbearable. Our hearts can be broken. Our spirits can be crushed. We can end up like David who was driven to hiding in a cave and say, “No one cares for my soul” (Psalm 142:4). There are times when our dreams lie shattered on the ground, and the news we receive is so bad that we feel like we have been beaten by a professional boxer, and all we want to do is lie on the ground in our pain and weep.
Jesus knows that pain. He has had His heart broken. He cried out from the cross, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” as He writhed in agonizing pain (Mark 15:34). Sadly, we are the ones who inflicted all this pain on the innocent Son of God. Jesus groaned and wept under the burden of our sins as He died in our place.
Jesus our High Priest intercedes for us, and He understands all our weaknesses and trials. Jesus is touched by what touches us. His love compels Him to never leave nor forsake us in our dark hours. Jesus “gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age” (Galatians 1:4), and He will rescue us from all the wickedness and evil that comes against us (Psalm 71). Remember this: You are God’s child today and always, and your life is safe in His hands.
