Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Psalm 146:8 — The LORD opens the eyes of the blind, the LORD lifts those who are weighed down, the LORD loves the righteous.

Psalm 146 begins and ends with praise to the Lord, with hallelujahs. The psalmist says that we should not put our trust in men who are here today and gone tomorrow, but in the Lord. The remainder of the psalm is a list of some of the wonderful things the Lord does for us, and verse eight gives three examples.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. Every human being is born spiritually blind. We enter this world with empty souls and hearts of stone that do not seek God. But the Lord seeks us and offers us His light to give us new hearts that can see Him. The Lord blesses us with the gift of spiritual sight so we can walk by faith in the way of His Word. Hallelujah!

The Lord lifts those who are weighed down. As the hymn says, “Would you be free from your burden of sin?” All of us sons and daughters of Adam are born sinners, and the longer we live the heavier our burden of sins becomes…until we meet Jesus at the cross. As another spiritual song says, “Burdens are lifted at Calvary.” The Savior relieves us of our burden of sin. The Lord also tells us, His born-again sons and daughters, to cast our burden of cares upon Him, for He cares for us. Praise the Lord!

The Lord loves the righteous. Who are the righteous? I am! You are! We who are in Christ are the righteous because of our faith in Jesus Christ the Righteous! And the Lord loves us. He loves us with an everlasting love that should make our hearts pound with thanksgiving, gladness, and praise. In heaven, I want to have the ability to dance beautifully, so that I can physically express the joy and gratitude I have for the Lord’s love for me. He made me righteous and He loves me! He has done the same for you! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
