Today’s Reading: Hosea 14
Hosea 14:4 — The Lord says, “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; My love will know no bounds, for My anger will be gone forever.”
God promises to forgive our waywardness. Israel suffered from the disease of faithlessness and God desired to heal them. The Lord wanted Israel to stop worshiping idols and relying on foreign nations for salvation. Israel had God and He loved them so much. The love of God for Israel is poured out on every page of the book of Hosea.
In Hosea 14, God sees Israel as a plant that He wants to tend and nurture. God wants to be dew that will refresh His people and cause them to blossom like a lily and put down deep roots in Him. God wants His people to grow branches and be beautiful like olive trees. He wants Israel to live in His shade so they can flourish with fruit and be a sweet fragrance to others.
God’s boundless love was willing to forgive all of Israel’s waywardness and sins if they would only confess their sins and return to Him. That is all God requires. Acknowledge and admit your sin and turn away from your way to His way. God is ready to give mercy for healing and forgiveness.
God likened Israel to an adulterous wife that had abandoned Him for other men. God, as Israel’s husband, was willing to forgive her and take her back and restore her. He wanted Israel to be strong, beautiful, and fruitful. God said to Israel, “I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from Me.”
Think about what God said to Israel and know that He says that same to you. His love for you knows no bounds. He answers your prayers and cares for you. He invites you to live in the shade of mercy and to feed on the fruit of His Spirit. The Lord says that the wise understand these things and discern that His way is the right way. Live wisely today.
