God's Purpose

Psalm 138:8 — The LORD will fulfill His purpose for me.

Whenever David was in trouble, he cried out to God for help. David knew that God would hear his plea because God made him and God had a purpose for his life. “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me” (Psalm 57:2). God had a purpose for David, and God has a purpose for you and me too.

Everything that happens in the life of a believer serves a purpose because God, like a great conductor, is orchestrating all things and working them together for His good and glorious purpose. Each of our lives is like a note in the score of God’s holy symphony. Sometimes we may be a low note in our time of suffering. Sometimes we may be a high note in our time of delight. Every note of our lives is purposeful.

David said, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.” David believed that God gave his life meaning and purpose. Without God, life is meaningless and empty. Without God, there is no answer to the question, “Why am I here? Why do I exist?” But God gives life hope, beauty, and meaning. God made us to be members of His family. He made you to be His son or His daughter so that He could give you His love and His life.

Our primary purpose is to know and to enjoy God forever. If we miss that purpose for living, we have missed everything. If we refuse that purpose, we lose everything. For people who reject God’s purpose for them, the closest they will come to heaven is life now on Earth; their eternal destination is torment in hell. For people who receive God’s purpose for them, the closest they will come to hell is this life; their eternal destination is joy in heaven.

Delight in God’s purpose for you! Get to know God in every situation, in your sufferings and in your times of blissful satisfaction. There is joy in the journey with Jesus.
