God's Fitness Center

Today’s Reading: James 1:1-12

James 1:2 — Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds.

God promises wisdom and strength. God wants to raise our spiritual fitness level. He wants us to be ready to stand strong when the enemy comes against us, so He has a program to help us build up experience and endurance. This is the “trials and troubles” program available to all believers for free at God’s fitness center.

The Christian life requires spiritual stamina. We are running a race and the race course is in a battlefield. We need strength to endure and “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).

We have an enemy the lays traps for us and places obstacles in our way. The enemy lies and attempts to turn us off the course we are following with Jesus. Sometimes the way seems unclear to us. This is when we need godly wisdom to discern the right path. Our experience in the Word of God and listening to the Spirit will help direct our feet.

Trial and troubles should bring us to Jesus. He is our personal spiritual fitness trainer. He has the words of life that we need, which teach us how to live a successful Christian life.

Sometimes we fail. We listen to the wrong words and make bad choices that lead us off the living way and we fall. But the Holy Spirit is right there when we call out for help, and He performs spiritual sports medicine to help us recover by grace and get back in the race.

We count is all joy when we meet trials, because the Lord is in every trial to minister grace to us and help us grow more like Jesus.
