God of My Salvation

2024/12/01 Devotional

Micah 7:7 — But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.

Over a period of twenty-five years, Micah the prophet communicated God’s thoughts to the nation of Judah which had fallen into sin. Two-thirds of Micah’s prophesies concern Judah’s sins and the punishment God would send; one-third of the prophecies spoke of the hope of Judah’s restoration once the punishment ended.

The seventh chapter of Micah begins with Micah expressing how miserable he is because of Judah’s sins. He laments that all of the godly people have disappeared and that everyone who remains is untrustworthy, corrupt, and capable of murdering their own family members for their personal gain. What is Micah to do?

In verse seven, Micah speaks of his hope: He will look to the Lord and wait for the God of his salvation. Micah is confident that God will hear him and bring him into the divine light of God’s righteousness. “Though I fall, I will rise again! Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light!”

Our great faith in God sustains us in the darkest hours of our lives. We have confident hope in Christ that even when we fall (because we will), we will rise again by the grace of God. In times of darkness when it seems the enemy is winning, we can proclaim as Micah did, “Do not gloat over me, my enemies!” because the Lord is our shining light in the darkness. Look to the Lord, the God of your salvation. He is your hope.
