Today’s Reading: James 4:11-17
James 4:14 — You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
God promises today. When Moses asked God for His name, God replied, “I AM.” God is. Yes, God was and God will always be, but God is God right now in this moment. He is “very present” as Psalm 46:1 says.
God is here with us, here for us, right now in all of His greatness and splendor and majesty and power. We are like mist that is here one moment and soon gone, but God is eternal and undiminished by the passing of time.
We do not know what tomorrow will bring or even if we will live to see tomorrow. But God’s essence, His holy attributes and divine character and nature, will be remain perfectly unchanged tomorrow.
Before there was anything, God was. Before there were stars and moons and planets, before there were rivers or forests, clouds or mountains, fields or oceans, God was. And God made everything for His glory and gave life to the creatures He made for His pleasure. He made us, the human race, to enjoy relationship with Him.
We may not have tomorrow, but we have today, this moment, to know and enjoy our Creator, our Lord, our Father, our Friend. Don’t wait until Sunday morning to praise and worship God. Draw near to Him and bless HIs name today.
