Today’s Reading: Matthew 6:25-34
James 1:17 — Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
God promises His provision for our needs. Every good thing we have is a gracious gift from God. You are God’s child and He cares for you and He knows every one of your needs. God also wants to make you a gift of His grace for other people.
God sent Elijah the prophet as a gift of His grace to a widow and her son in the town of Zarephath. She and her son were getting ready to eat a small, final meal and then wait to starve to death. But God performed a miracle through Elijah that kept the widow and her son supplied with flour and oil. Later, Elijah raised the widow’s son back to life after he grew weak and died.
God sent a captive servant girl as a gift of grace to Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army who suffered from leprosy. She was able to tell him about the prophet Elisha who told Naaman to wash in the Jordan River seven times. Naaman did as Elisha said and he was miraculously healed.
You could be God’s gracious provision for someone else’s need. God may send you to speak to someone about Jesus, and how He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again to give us the gift of eternal life. God may send you to brothers and sisters in Christ to comfort them, encourage them, help them, or give them something they need.
There are some who say, “God helps those who help themselves,” but that is not the message of Scripture. God helps the helpless who cannot help themselves because He is the God of all grace who helps us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). God will graciously provide what you need for today.
