Eternal Words of Truth

Today’s Reading: Psalm 119:89-96

Matthew 24:35 — Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

God promises His Word will stand forever. Christ’s words will never pass away because they are eternal words. The truth always was the truth and always will be the truth. The truth exists apart from anyone’s thoughts, opinions, or feelings.

Jesus is the truth (John 14:6) and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Who Jesus is and what He has said and done will never change and will never pass away. What the devil and what sinful men and women think, write, and say about Jesus does not change Him. The eternal is perfect and unchanging.

Heaven and earth have an expiration date that God knows, and they will pass away to make way for the new heaven and the new earth that will last forever. All of the deeds of great men and women, all their famous speeches and books will be gone from memory someday. All the monuments and statues of famous people and all the places named after them will disappear like a breath, because they are temporal, not eternal.

The psalmist wrote that God’s eternal Word sustains people with joy from generation to generation. The Word of God is not like slang words that trend for a while and then go out of style. God’s words are always relevant because they give the life and hope, joy and peace, strength and encouragement, and wisdom and knowledge that people will always need.

This world wants us to feed on ashes (Isaiah 44:20) and the wind (Hosea 12:1) so that our souls cleave to the dust (Psalm 119:25). This world is filled with words, words, and more words, but so many of them are vanity and emptiness. They do not feed our souls and spirits because they are not the eternal words of Christ.

Remember what Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Consume eternal words.
