Divine Priorities

Today’s Reading: Matthew 6:25-34

2 Corinthians 5:7 — For we walk by faith, not by sight.

God promises to care for us every day. Jesus asked His listeners why they worried about everyday life. He said that our heavenly Father knows all our needs and is ready and able to provide them all. Jesus said that what we ought to be concerned about is seeking the Kingdom of God by faith.

What are the priorities of God’s kingdom? If you are an unbeliever, your first priority should be to seek Christ’s salvation for your soul. Once one becomes a believer, getting to know Jesus and living in obedience to God’s Word by faith becomes a priority as well as sharing the gospel with others.

It requires faith to make seeking the Kingdom of God your first priority in everyday life. The thorns and weeds of our daily needs try to choke and smother the seeds of faith that God plants in our hearts. We often are tempted to put our faith in things we can see instead of our amazing, invisible God.

There is nothing wrong with money, education, family, and natural abilities, but if I make them my source of strength and security instead of God, I am living in unbelief. I am living like an unbeliever who has no relationship with Jesus and who does not think that God cares enough about him to meet his everyday needs.

What kingdom do I serve today? Am I serving the kingdom of temporary material things or the kingdom or eternal spiritual life? Which comes first? How do I spend my time and treasure? “I cannot go to church because I have to do this other thing.” “I cannot spend time praying or studying God’s Word because I have to do this other thing.” “I cannot go out with the other church members to evangelize because I have to do this other thing.”

Think about it: Do you walk by faith or by sight? Do you seek first the kingdom of God? Do you have divine priorities? Just remember this: Faith pleases God.
