Delivered From Trouble

Jeremiah 1:8 — Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah had been called at a young age to a difficult mission — to speak God’s message to the leaders of the people who were older than him. The message was going to be unpopular, and for a youth to declare it to adults in authority was not easy.

God said, “Jeremiah, I am with you.” The Lord said, “I will deliver you.” Jeremiah must have wondered at that last statement. “Deliver me? From what?” Jeremiah must have realized then that there would be times when he would get in trouble for speaking God’s words, and that he would need God to get him out of trouble. God assured Jeremiah that He would deliver Jeremiah from those times of trouble.

God’s Son, Jesus Christ, was the greatest troublemaker that God sent into the world. Jesus caused trouble just by being who He was and telling people about Himself. Jesus caused trouble by healing, casting out demons, and raising the dead. Jesus caused trouble by proclaiming the truth.

God has called us to be His troublemakers. By living and sharing the gospel, we will be causing trouble in the devil’s world system. We will upset the flesh of people, not by being obnoxious, but by declaring the Good News of salvation in a loving way. There will be some that respond to the love of God and receive Christ as their savior, but there will be others who reject God’s gift of eternal life, and may be scary in the way they do so.

God says to us, “Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you.” Don’t be afraid to cause a little trouble speaking Christ’s message.
