Comforting Faith

Today’s Reading: Isaiah 51:12-16

Isaiah 51:12 — “I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass?”

God promises His comfort and support. God spoke to His people to offer them His assurance while they were in captivity in Babylon. The Lord wanted them to know that they had nothing to fear. He would set them free.

God encouraged the Jewish captives to remember who He is. God is the Creator, the one who stretched out the sky like a canopy and laid the foundations of the earth. God stirs up the sea, causing its waves to roar, and He stretched out the sky like a canopy and laid the foundations of the earth.

Psalm 113:5-6 says, “Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?” There is no one like our God. There is no power that can stand against Him, so we should not be so fearful that we lose faith in God, our loving, almighty Creator and Savior.

Men are like grass who quickly wither away, but God is eternal. God comforts us with His eternal presence and with the assurance of His eternal life. God says, “I have…covered you in the shadow of My hand.” We are hidden in the safety of God’s hand, the same mighty hand that laid the foundations of the earth.

Faith is so important. Faith pleases God. It is faith in Jesus that justifies us and makes us righteous in God’s sight (Romans 3:21-26). We are told to walk by faith and not be sight. Jesus always encouraged people to have faith and not fear. Remember God’s comforting words found throughout the Scriptures and mix them with faith today to be strengthened in your walk with Him.

When reality and my prayers do not match, I hold on to these words and pray. Martin Luther said

“Prayer is not about changing God’s plan, but about trusting in God’s sovereign will and resting in it.”
